Cinematography inspired Wes-tinations

Cinematography inspired Wes-tinations

For cinematography lovers, today we have something special prepared.

Wes Anderson films have recently been adored by many. No wonder, as it’s the aesthetic masterpiece glorifying the most charming corners of the world.

If you have not seen Anderson’s films already – consider yourself lucky, for there’s no need to erase your memory to watch it like the first time again. Nevertheless, these routes won’t leave anyone indifferent.

We are going to look mainly at Grand Hotel Budapest, Moonlight Kingdom, and his recent one – The French Dispatch.
Though the Grand Budapest Hotel was just a cute little miniature and does not exist in real life, there are inspirational references from different parts of the globe.

Germany

Görlitz

We’ll start with a German city near the Polish border. Here are almost 4k historical sites to see.

Inglourious Basterds and The Book Thief were almost all filmed here, and the city still attracts filmmakers, Wes’ fans, and historical baroque architecture lovers.
Tender pastel colours make everything look dollhouse-like.

Kaufhaus Görlitz

That’s the place you are probably looking for. Here Wes Anderson created unique decorations for the Grand Budapest Hotel and rebuilt some of the old shop galleries to make hotel rooms.

Hainewalde

When visiting Germany, consider coming across the little village Hainewalde and its main manor – Hainewalde castle.

Pfunds Molkerei, Dresden

It’s a Mendl’s confectionary shop where she used to bake the cakes the prison guard did not dare to cut during the goods inspection.
The XIX century elegant hand-painted tiles are going to have you speechless.

The Zwinger Museum

– the rococo palace, the events of the Grand Budapest Hotel take place in. Both from the inside and outside, it’s a must-see when in Dresden.

Karlovy Vary, Czechia

Located in the west of Bohemia in the Czech Republic, the city has been a well-known spa centre since 19 century. As here are the hot springs and geysers, so the spa business is prospering here.

Hydrotherapy session and spring mineral water for you to try while waiting for the international film festival that is being held in the city.

Berner Oberland, Switzerland

This place has countless mountain peaks, hundreds of lakes, and Alpine nature. It welcomes you every time of the year, as in summer there are folk festivals and hitchhiking, and in winter it’s just a place for skiing.

Sphinx Observatory, Jungfraujoch

If travelling to Switzerland, do not miss the opportunity to take a look at the Observatory that became an inspiration for the film. In a similar place, the Budapest Grand Hotel characters were trying to escape from a spy – a truly astonishing scene in terms of editing and shooting.

Lauterbrunnen Valley

Another place worth paying attention to.

Staubbach waterfall is simply impossible to take your eyes off. Besides, mountains lie under the snow carpet. Cows wander through emerald meadows, ringing their little cowbells in tune with waterfall sounds.

Angoulême as Ennui-sur-Blasé (The French Dispatch), France

Here is the Charente River valley, a breathtaking place, really, yet, the city is famous for its graffiti-painted walls: comic characters, futuristic paintings, cartoons, abstract portraits, and social caricatures.

Prague is a true Wes Anderson inspiration
Hotel Opera

Along with the Grandhotel Pupp in Karlovy Vary, there is a Hotel Opera. The prices are decent, and the location is in the centre of Prague. It’s pink, built in the neo-renaissance style, and has the exact Grand Budapest vibe.

The rest of the inspirational hotels are:

  • Hotel Adlon in Berlin,
  • Grand hotel Pupp in Karlovy Vary
  • Savoy Hotel in London

GoGreen Summit

GoGreen Summit

The GoGreen Summit is an annual conference held in Bali (Indonesia), taking place on June 1st–3rd. It is organized by the International Society of Environmental Relationship and Sustainability or ISERS. The prior focus of the GoGreen Summit is to find solutions to environmental problems.

The global aims of the summit

GoGreen is not just a conference—it is a whole platform, bringing together climate activists and everyone involved in this industry. At the conference, they discuss the latest innovations and ways to sort out current challenges. Leo Tolstoy, one of the greatest writers of all time, once said:One of the first conditions of happiness is that the link between man and nature shall not be broken.

He truly believed that people and nature are connected on some spiritual level. What happens if this link breaks at some point? Usually, a catastrophe. This year, the GoGreen Summit goes under the following enigma: Go Green: Shape the Future Green Planet.

What does it mean? Likely, saving the planet from the current crisis is not the only goal of the committee. The conference should also help find ways to not repeat the same mistakes in the future.

Participants and organizers of the summit

The conference is not open to everybody. Those who want to visit must fit into one of the following categories: Scientists; Business professionals, Environmental Activists, and Social workers; Governmental organizations; and, in the end, students and professors of agriculture, forestry, fishing, and hunting facilities.

The GoGreen Summit has plenty of opportunities for the representatives of the mentioned branches. It gives visitors a chance to meet international speakers, exchange and provide new ideas, and also share knowledge in any of the listed fields. Making connections at this festival is one of the main reasons to attend. Representatives of different universities will make their speeches. The summit is organized by a committee consisting of lecturers and professors from the universities of different countries (e.g. India, Malaysia, Philippines).

Program of GoGreen

The festival is divided into several sections, the most important of which are the technical sessions. There are 11 tracks, each consisting of subsections and seminars. Tracks in every section are united by the same topic. Some of them are the following:

Environmental Pollution and Emerging Solution

People in this field do not only study pollution and its kinds but also look at ways to reduce the level of pollution.

Ecology and Earth Science

It looks at such aspects as ecosystems, types of ecology, natural hazards, et cetera.

Renewable Energy

This section collects opinions on how to use energy and biofuels with the highest efficiency.

The other tracks are connected with engineering, chemistry, social sciences, engineering, biology, and ecology.

The most outstanding personalities who have contributed to saving the planet or creating a healthy environment will be honored in a list of categories. Among others, it includes such nominations as best oral presentation and best student presentation.

At the moment, the recruitment of media, sponsors, and exhibitors is in process.

‍Spend some time in the natural environment of Indonesia

Sometimes, discussing the problem is not enough to solve it. Right after listening to lectures about natural beauty, you can see it with your own eyes. Indonesia is a beautiful country, and it has plenty of natural resources and treasures that are beautiful and deserve to be valued.

Ubud, which is the cultural center of Bali, is one of the places that can change your whole attitude towards nature. You will love the nature of Sacred Monkey Forest and Tegenungan Waterfall, and see how coffee, wood, and batik are made here. All of this is possible in this natural environment. After all, Bali is a part of the Unesco World Heritage. Book your place on our tour to see such sights as Lake Bratan and Ulun Danu and learn more about the local culture.

Plan your trip to Indonesia to see the local natural treasures. Saving nature is possible even if you don’t participate in the summit, as long as you share its main principles.

Pinkpop: Rock And Pop In The Netherlands

Pinkpop: Rock And Pop In The Netherlands

Pinkpop is an annual music festival held at Landgraaf, the Netherlands. It is one of the biggest contemporary music events in Europe, with an excellent artist lineup, attracting thousands of music fans every year.

The festival usually takes place on the Pentecost weekend; however, if the religious date falls on an early date in May, the event is postponed until a later date in June to accommodate the musicians as well as visitors. This year, the event will be held from Friday till Sunday, 17-19 June, 2022.

What is it all about?

Oh, nothing. Just one of the oldest and longest running annual pop and rock festivals in the world, that’s all.

It all started in 1970, at Burgemeester Damen Sportpark in the city of Geleen, the Netherlands, where the first Pinkpop was held. The event was so popular that it was repeated the next year – and it has been coming back to Europe ever since. Except for 2020 and 2021 due to epidemiologic reasons, of course.

The Old Guard
In 2007, there was a special edition under the name “Pinkpop Classic,” which was aimed at the older generation of fans and featured bands that had performed at the festivals some 20-30 years before.

While the name might give off an early Britney Spears or Katy Perry vibe, this is a unique get-together for alternative music fans with some pop elements. It is a multi-genre event, celebrating contemporary music in its multitude of forms and expressions.

Over the course of its almost half-century history, over 500 artists have performed here, including such big shots as The Rolling Stones, Björk, Metallica, Nazareth, U2, John Mayer, Editors, Rob Zombie, Paramore, and many others.

Name

Why is the name of the festival not so rock, though?

The name Pinkpop is half Dutch and half English. “Pink” actually comes from the Dutch word for Pentecost – Pinksteren, and “pop” simply refers to popular music. This name also gave the festival its logo, a vintage doll in a pink dress: in this sense, it is vice versa, the “pink” part comes from the English name for a color, and “pop” is the Dutch word for a doll.

Pinkpop 2022

Unable to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2019, the event returns in 2022 with an excellent lineup of music artists to make up for it: expect to see Metallica, Pearl Jam, twenty one pilots, Imagine Dragons, Nightwish, Måneskin, and many other musicians from Europe and across the world.

Over three days, more than 50 prominent musicians will perform on four stages, open-air and covered, at the festival venue in Landgraaf, the Netherlands. Aside from the main area, there are several smaller, cozier sites, like the Kalm Aan Laan (Take-It-Easy Lane), which serves a variety of snacks and drinks and lets the visitors relax away from the lively main stages.

To provide more comprehensive guidance (mind that this event usually attracts about 60,000 people per day!), the festival’s team released an official app that lets you set a personal timetable, receive reminders about bookmarked performances, navigate with maps, and find out more about the available foods and drinks. Another cool feature of the app is that you can listen to some music from the program of each stage, so you can discover a new act to follow.

Pinkpop is held in the city of Landgraaf in southeastern Limburg, 2-3 hours by train from Amsterdam. To get around the Netherlands and look for things to do around Landgraaf before or after the festival, visit GetExperience.com.

CHANEL Reopens Its Iconic Building After A Redesign

CHANEL Reopens Its Iconic Building After A Redesign

On Wednesday, 18 May, CHANEL reopened its iconic boutique at 18 Place Vendôme, after a year of renovation. The three-story building was reinvented by architect Peter Marino. The original boutique was increased in size and redesigned to express the house’s evolution through the years.

The opening date is not incidental – 18 May marks the 90 years anniversary of “Bijoux de Diamants,” the only high jewelry collection created by Gabrielle Chanel in 1932.

The 18 Place Vendôme boutique houses the Chanel Watches and Jewelry collection by the creative studio led by Patrice Leguéreau and Arnaud Chastaingt. The new addition to the display is the Chanel Patrimoine collection.

Even with access to modern technology and e-commerce, CHANEL places the emphasis on human experience and face-to-face communication. Therefore, the newly redecorated building is an epitome of luxury to suit the house’s clients.
