Virtuoso, a travel network, has recently released a study revealing the differences and similarities between Baby Boomers, Generation X and Millennials as for their travel, work and life approaches.
The study uncovered a set of interests that determine each generation group. For example, Baby Boomers are identified by the following topics of interest: curiosity, mentorship, sustainability, health and safety. Generation X are characterized by self-motivation and self-governance, technology, and experiences, whereas the Millennials are tech-native, curious, self-expressive, transparent and purpose-driven.
The study suggests that Baby Boomers prefer traveling in small private groups, giving the preference to river cruising and bringing to life their dream-holiday, postponed due to COVID-19 lockdown. To this day, they have a thirst for exploration and are eager to remain relevant. With time and money at their disposal, they travel at a slower pace, with easy healthcare access at the forefront while on vacation. They tend to rely on professional guidance and trust travel advisors.
Generation X don’t put their trust in authority, which makes it hard to gain their trust, but once you’ve earned it, they’ll stay loyal for life. Travel wise, Gen Xer prefer planning their holiday themselves, but if a travel advisor has proven to be trustworthy due to its transparency in terms of pricing, it’ll be easy to win them over.
For Millennials, traveling is a crucial part of their life. It enriches their experience. Being largely inspired by the social media, sustainability is a cornerstone for their travel decisions. Millennials tend to turn to professional travel advisors when planning a trip.
