New Mount Everest Women’s Climbing Record

Published on July 24, 2022

On Thursday, 12 May, Lhakpa Sherpa scaled Mount Everest for the 10th time, breaking her own record. This is the world record of climbing the highest mountain on Earth by a woman.

The last time the 48-year-old Nepali woman climbed the 8,848 meters of Everest was in 2018.

Lhakpa Sherpa’s successful 10th ascent to the mountain was confirmed by a tourism official of Nepal and duly documented as a world record.

One of 11 children, Lhakpa was born in Sankhuwasabha’s eastern area, which is home to Makalu, the world’s fifth highest peak.

Everest has been climbed for over 10,000 times since 1953; some people attempted to ascend several times, and many died trying.
